Roads

To access this screen:

  • Using the Scheduling Setup screen, select the Haul Routes icon on the left, then select the Roads tab.

Use the Roads tab to add, edit, and delete roads and road settings. This is part of the settings used to define haul routes.

What Is A Road?

A Road is the path – represented by a string – connecting two adjacent nodes. For example, the path followed by a haul truck from one bench exit node to the next bench exit node up a ramp. Multiple roads are combined to form a longer, continuous path (a Sector).

Adding a Road and Settings

  1. Click Add in the Roads group and then define the parameters in the Road Settings group on the right.

  2. If Select Point is used, then the Node type is identified from the selected Node and the Node ID is automatically selected.

  3. If the Define by String option is selected, the strings object name is then selected from the dropdown list (the strings object must have been previously loaded), along with the Key Field from the string object and the Key Value. The attributes of the string (factor, rolling resistance and maximum speed) can then be edited for each segment of the string.

Road Settings

The Inclined Distance along the Road will need to be calculated and the Factor is used to modify this distance to account for any calibration factors that are specific to a given road. An example of this might be where a particular road has poor surface conditions or trolley assist, here the vehicle speed will need to be reduced or increased respectively, in order to account for this. In this case the standard vehicle speed is used but the inclined distance is modified by the factor to account for the decrease or increase in speed.

The Gradient for the Road is specified as the overall effective gradient and should include Rolling Resistance. For example if the Rolling Resistance is 2 % and the gradient is 8 % then the effective gradient is 10 %.

The Maximum Speed for a Road is applied to account for specific road conditions. For example if the road speed needs to be limited to 20 km/hr and the calculated vehicle speed is 35 km/hr then the speed limit of 20 km/hr will be applied.

Activity steps:

  1. Display the Roads screen.

  2. To add a road, click Add in the Roads group.

    • To edit a road name, select the road in the Roads list, then click Edit.

    • To delete a road, select the road in the Roads list, then click Delete.

    • To add multiple roads from a strings object, click Auto, then select a strings object using the Select Road String screen.

  3. In the Road Settings group, enter the road ID.

  4. Define the road start and end nodes.

    • Select a From Node type, then select the node ID in the next list. Types include:

      • Bench Exit

      • Pit Exit

      • Destination

      • Dump Point

      • Intersection

    • Select a To Node type, then select the node ID in the next list.

    • Alternatively, click Select Point and pick the start and end points interactively in any 3D window.

  5. Define the Road Settings using one of the following methods.

    • To define the road using parameters, check Inc. Dist (m), then define the road settings:

      • Set Rolling Res. to the rolling resistance value for the road surface (default is 0).

      • Set Gradient (%) to the overall effective gradient, including rolling resistance. For example, if rolling resistance is 2% and gradient is 8%, the effective gradient is 10%.

      • Set Factor to modify the inclined distance to account for calibration factors that are specific to the road (default is 1, always greater than or equal to 1, and never 0).

      • Set Max Spd (kph) to limit vehicle speed for specific road conditions (this value is never 0).

    • To define the road using a string, select String Object, then select the strings object name, Key Field, and Key Value so a single string is selected.

Note: If you defined the road using a string, click Edit to edit the string segment settings (Factor, Rolling Resistance, and Max Speed) for each segment.

  6. Click Accept to accept the Road Settings and add the road to the Roads list. Alternatively, click Reject to reject the currently defined Road Settings.
